FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

On Friday was Andrea's first day of school and boy was she excited.  She woke up extra early, so she could get herself ready....even doing her own hair.  I am so proud as to how grown up she is getting.  This first day of school was extra special since it was her first day of school EVER.  I wanted to share with you some of the things I did to help make this a very special first day of school, one that she would remember for a life time.
The first thing we did to help make it a special start to the school year was to paint her fingernails & toenails.  No we did not go to a salon, but we did make a salon here at our house.  I set up a "foot spa" area where she was able to soak her feet in the bucket of water.  I also put some glass rocks in the bottom of the "spa" (the kind you would put in a fish bowl) so that she could tickle her toes.  After the soak I let her pick out one of my special nail polishes. Andrea was over joyed to choose the HOT PINK for her first day of school.
Then we did what I consider to be the traditional first day preparations. I  allowed her to choose her outfit, even thogh I wanted her to wear the new dress I bought for her I let her choose the outfit that she wanted.  Its hard as a parent to allow our children this responsibility, but to see how happy Andrea was made it so much easier.  I also had her put her jacket & backpack by the front door, so we knew where it was in the morning.
That night, before bed I surprised both Andrea & Alexis with a new bed time story.  I borrowed this book from my local library.
This was a fantastic read & I highly recommend anyone with a child starting preschool to check out this book.  What I loved most was that it was told in a rhyme structure, which makes it easier for all kids to pay attention & remember what they read.  It helped my child to understand what to expect her first day of school which was presently surprising.  I also loved how colorful all the illustrations were.

The next morning I also allowed Andrea to choose what she wanted to eat for breakfast.  I was expecting her to say pancakes, but instead she wanted some frozen waffles.  Since to me those by itself are not very special.  I chose to use my own creative touch.  Here is the final result.....
Andrea was so surprised to see this.  It was really easy to make.  I simply took a waffle & cut it into a #1 shape.  I than took a dry erase marker & wrote to words on the plate.  She was so shocked!

Needless to say that just a little thinking outside of the box helped to ensure a good start to her day.  I hope that all of you had a great first day of school with your little ones.

*I was not asked to review the book listed in this blog post.  It was done simply to share my opinion with all of you*
