#Mamavation Monday Week 5

I am proud to say that this week I kept my goal about walking away from the candy bowl! I am addicted to chocolate and coffee & since usually for me the two went hand in hand I inadvertently gave up coffee as well.  In fact it didn't even taste good to me this week.  Granted that may also be do to the fact that I am slowly getting all my taste buds back.  So I gave up on addiction for another. I hope that's not a bad thing.  Anyway, I have always loved tea.  Any kind of tea in fact.  So this past week when I looked at my food journal I noticed that I drank about 2-3 cups of either green tea or chi tea.  (chi is my favorite)

I am happy to announce that according to my scale I am down to 208 POUNDS!!!  That is a loss of  3 pounds!!!  So, I guess that my "water weight" loss from last week was actually weight loss.  Now I hope that I just don't sabotage myself again.  In the past when I have had this good of a loss, I let that be my excuse as to why I could have my snacks or that extra serving of food.  Lets keep my fingers crossed!

This weeks blogging carnival question was...How has Type II diabetes affected your life?

Thankfully, I don't have Type II diabetes.  As we all know when your obese you are at a greater chance of getting this disease.  When I found out how much my starting weight was, I was very concerned about it.  Thankfully all the blood sugar test that I have had always come back normal.  So by exercising & trying to take control of my weight now I will hopefully not be affected.  Unfortunately not everyone in my family has been so lucky.  My grandmother had Type II & my grandfather had Type I.  They did live a good life, but let insulin control what they did.  I also have an aunt & close family friend who is Type II.  Seeing how they lived their lives, made me even more determined to beat diabetes before it got to me.  I also have a brother who was diagnosed with Type I when he was 22 yrs old. When he got his diagnosis my entire family changed how we cooked (for a while)  There was no butter, no sugar (just equal)and no soda.  However, that all changed once he moved out of the house.  I also used to work in home care & approximately 20% of my clients had Type II diabetes.  Until I sat down to think about this question, I never realized that Diabetes is all around me.  I hope that one day there will be a cure for it.  Thanks to the help of the folks over at Better n Eggs they are on there way to helping find the solution to Diabetes.  I checked out their web site http://www.allwhiteseggwhites.com/ and they have some fantastic recipes that I can not wait to try out.  The first recipe that caught my eyes was the Low Fat Classic Creme Brulee.  I LOVE creme brulee, but thought that I wouldn't be able eat it as it would be too high in fat & calories.  But now I know its not & I think I will be making this yummy treat on Wednesday.  I let you all know how it turns out.
